Are you kidding me? 12k for a coffee makers

We all love a good cup of coffee but 12k is simply a bit too much, this is the news from a Canada News agency

“Geoff Polci and Alana Duggan looked around for the perfect location for their new café, a high-end spot for caffeinistas who have outgrown Starbucks. They chose the Junction, whose increasingly upscale storefronts on Dundas West do daily battle for the hearts and minds of passersby. With beans from Vancouver’s 49th Parallel and baristas whose training starts with foam art and ends several circles of seriousness beyond that, Crema Coffee Company, opened April 21, is a bit of Pacific Northwest in Toronto’s west end.

The air is rarefied even more by their nearly $12,000 Clover coffee machine - one of only three in the city (Manic on College and a soon-to-be-opened café in Kensington). What makes it special: You control every aspect, such as the temperature of the water and the dose of coffee.

Mr. Polci and Ms. Duggan also installed a $4,000 water system to ensure that the water’s mineral content stays modulated. In the training program, Mr. Polci encourages the baristas to sample an espresso every couple of hours so they can alter “the pulls” accordingly. (Coffee oxidizes once the bag is opened, and perfect espresso requires different grinds and different doses throughout the day.) “If you get the roast, the grind and the dose just right,” Mr. Polci says, “an espresso should actually be sweet.” A cup of Clover is $2.95 for small and $3.75 for large.

A stark interior designed by Ms. Duggan, who’s a former stylist for photographers and commercial shoots, contrasts well with the still chaotic Junction street life, creating a sort of oasis they hope will draw in the increasingly gentrified population. The tasting classes they’re planning to start this summer - the first ones of their kind in this still somewhat coffee-challenged city - will probably help that along, too.”
